Your data, in plain English
Last updated 23 October 2026
Short version: no account, no cookies and no ads. Visits and the language you pick are counted anonymously with GoatCounter (no cookies, nothing that identifies you). The only thing kept on our server is what's needed to send weather alerts you've asked for, and turning alerts off deletes it straight away.
Weather alerts
If you turn on alerts, your browser first asks your permission. When you say yes, we keep:
- Where to send the alert: a delivery address your browser creates for this device. It doesn't contain your name, email or phone number.
- Your area: the place you last searched or located, rounded to about 11 km, plus the place name shown in the app (for example "London"). Never your exact position.
- Your choices: which alerts you ticked, °C or °F, and the language you picked (so alerts arrive in it).
- Which alerts you've had in the last two days, so you don't get the same one twice, and which friendly line each kind used last, so the next one says something different.
The same server also sends the alerts you turn on in the other No Man's Sky Hub apps: expedition alerts on the Hub and ATLAS (no area kept), new wallpapers and icons on the Theme Pack (no area kept), and "your system is trending" on the Galactic Map, which also keeps the Traveller name you charted under, to spot your systems on the weekly list. Turning an app's alerts off there deletes that sign-up.
Every 30 minutes our server checks the forecast for your area and sends an alert if something is about to change. Rain and temperature alerts stay quiet from 23:00 to 07:00.
This is kept on our host, Netlify. It's only used to send your alerts. It's never shared, sold or used for anything else.
How to remove it
- In the app: open Alerts and press Turn alerts off. Your sign-up is deleted from our server immediately.
- Block notifications or uninstall the app: the next time we try to send an alert, the delivery service tells us the device has gone, and we delete your sign-up automatically.
- Your area updates automatically when you search a new place while alerts are on.
Stored on your device only
The app saves a few settings in your own browser so it remembers them next time: your last place, °C/°F, the effects switch and your alert choices. These never leave your device. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. Because they only do what you asked for, they don't need a cookie banner.
Services the app talks to
- Open-Meteo: forecast, air quality and place search (receives the coordinates being looked up).
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim: turns a city name into a location and back.
- ipapi.co: only if you don't share your location, to guess your rough area from your internet address.
- Sentry: if the app crashes, a technical error report is sent so the bug can be fixed.
- RainViewer and Esri: the rain radar and its map (they receive the map squares for the area being shown).
- GoatCounter: an anonymous visit count (which page, rough country, phone or computer, and the language picked). No cookies, and nothing that identifies you is kept.
- Google Fonts: the fonts the app uses.
- Your browser's own push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft): delivers alerts to your device.
